Since there are obvious connections to awards in the "See Also" section of this article, I have decided to weigh in on this topic.
I find medical alarm companies who are given awards that are not truly distinguished, are boring. The awards, and the articles accompanying them are often a ploy to send you to a particular medical alarm company site that the article concludes is the best choice.
I would like to know just what "operators that are 911 trained" means? Maybe it means their instructor was or is a 911 manager. Maybe it means the person instructing them once worked for 911.
The truth is, as a civilian, you can't really distinguish between fact and fiction in a private company's claims. Be careful, order all of their brochures, ask your friends if they have a medical alarm company that they consider good or ask your local fire department what they know.
Medical alarms are not about the equipment. Mostly all equipment on the market today are quality built and multifunctional. It's all about the service provided, the caring, and the quality of management. Order all of the brochures from the companies you tend to like. Then after reading all of the printed materials...go with your gut feelings.
In my 25 years of experience in the medical alarm industry I have heard every superlative that can be applied to a company.
One company uses, past Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, M.D. to endorse their product. I wonder about the integrity of C. Everett Koop's endorsement. This article is a good insight to, Dr. C. Everett Koop: America's most trusted health authority.
Celebrity endorsements are usually paid for and are usually available for $10,000 to $20,000 per year. What does a celebrity endorsement mean? Absolutely nothing. Well, let me restate that, an endorsement usually is as good as money can buy. Celebrities are in the business of selling themselves for profit. In my experience...the B list of celebrities available for hire will say and do whatever you ask them to do. It really is that simple.
My real gripe about many of the medical alarm companies you find in your searches is that they really aren't mature medical alarm companies. They don't have the time in grade to know what happens over the years. They don't tell the truth about their years in the business.
There are many good medical alarm companies out there. Take your time and find the right one.
