What are some of the problems in the medical alarm industry?

Medical alarm and medical alert issues to be thought about many times per year.

Seniors forget to test their Senior Safety medical alert device on a weekly or monthly basis.

If medical alarm devices are not tested frequently with the Senior Safety monitoring center, or any other monitoring center, they can be useless when you need them most, when you can't get to the phone to dial 911. You must test both your pendant transmitter (the button you push), and the speaker box of the medical alert system at least once a month.

Check your medical alarm daily to see that your power light is always on. Sometimes, a helper or family member unplugs your medical alarm system from the electrical outlet...and forgets to plug it back in. Don't unplug a medical alarm unless you have to move it.

Practice testing the personal alarm (linked to Senior Safety's explanation of how a personal alarm or medical alarm system should work) with your loved one frequently. At times our elderly friends can forget why they are wearing a personal alarm button, or what it does. Sometimes they know what a medical alert does but they are afraid to push the medical alert button. Test it with them frequently, let them get comfortable with the friendly medical alert voice in the box. If you live far away, call mom or dad and remind them to test it now and then. Don't live with false security that they are protected if you don't test the medical alert system frequently.

A personal alarm system could save their independence and their lives.

Let them know that a friend can be called, not just 911. Many seniors fear an ambulance coming out with sirens screaming.

Make them comfortable with the personal alert system. They'll learn that the button is a great friend that will help maintain their precious independence.
