
Scientists have noticed that pets give seniors warm fuzzy feelings. Pets are great companions and scientests have started to explore the complex way animals affect human emotions and physiology.  I can tell you, I love my cats...they're easy to care for and they always love me. My opinion counts, I'm a young senior of fifty-seven.
There is no question that owning a pet can be good for some seniors. The benefits are well-documented; Lowered blood pressure, reduced cardiovascular disease, a sense of well being, reduced feelings of loneliness, not to mention increased fun! This is a good thing. 
Don't rush out and buy that dog, bird, cat, or other animal yet. Take time to think about the responsibilities involved in owing a pet. In Healthypets article "Pets for Senior Citizens," they talk about the benefits pets have on seniors. It's an informative read.
