What is this case study, and how is it performed?

Here is a description of the information collected - tests performed - and various prescriptions which make up a case study.

To start our case study on Jeff, we need to collect his initial values including:

    1. Demographic information: age, gender, marital status, weight, height, and other pertinent data.
    2. Medical and surgical history: past and recent.
    3. Behavior and risk factor assessment: including lifestyle analysis.
    4. Diet analysis: water, macro- and micro-nutrient intake along with other essential components (e.g. phytonutrients).

In addition to performing laboratory tests and procedures to measure his:

    1. Health status: complete physical, stress test, body composition tests, complete blood count (including lipid profile and other critical measures), medications, and other values.
    2. Physiological function: including tests of muscular, cardio-respiratory, orthopedic function along with measures of flexibility and functional capacity.

Once all the data is collected we will compare Jeff's values with normative tables to determine his biological (functional) age. This will allow us to compare Jeff's functional capacity and limitations to his chronological age of 57 years. Combining the case study data with the dietary and lifestyle analysis we will then formulate an exercise, diet, and lifestyle prescription based on his current condition.

As you follow along, in the coming weeks and months, you will be able to note changes in various health and fitness parameters as well as modifications in his medications, nutrient intake, exercise and activity program, and lifestyle to give you a complete picture of what we have done with him and how you can make over your life and improve your health.
