Working with a client like Jeff on the Fountain of Youth Project is
wonderful. He is motivated, hungry for knowledge, and willing to do what is
necessary to improve his health and life.
Jeff makes tracking changes and prescribing dietary, exercise, medication
changes easier and a pleasure. There is no complaining or deception. He puts all
he does in his log and makes everything accessible to me - the good, the bad,
and the ugly. It is all there. All I need to make an informed decision on how to
treat his condition. Not only that, he is willing to constantly change items if
necessary to get his blood values and disease markers in check.
The latest issue we are working to get in line is his blood triglyceride
values. Since getting off Lipitor we gotten Jeff's total-, LDL-, and
HDL- cholesterol levels in line. Even after a slight rebound they have
stabilized at a very healthy levels with total cholesterol below 145 mg/dl and
an LDL-cholesterol consistently below 61 mg/dl.
His triglyceride levels are another story. They are above the optimal level
of 150 mg/dl and have ranged from 205 to 330 mg/dl. One possibility is his
extremely low total fat diet. I wrote a post on the rebound of blood lipids following a
low-fat diet which occurs in some individuals. So, I will modify Jeff's diet
and increase his monounsaturated fat intake to see if that makes a
difference in his triglyceride levels. I am sure Jeff will have
no problem making the changes necessary to his diet to see if this is the
case.
Jeff follows his nutrient and exercise prescriptions to a "t" and is
enthusiastic about it the whole time. He is a pleasure to work with and hard for
my other clients to match. | | |
