Getting in the door when mom pushes her medical alert device?

There are several ways that mom can let people in her home when she pushes her medical alert button.

Once your mom's medical alert button for help is pushed, how are the emergency personnel going to get through your door?

Here are the four options available. They are listed in order of preference.

Lock box for your key

  • A lock box for the key to your house is ideal. This way when the paramedics or other help is called for you, they are provided the combination to the lock box to obtain a key an open your door. Easy, and the best method in my opinion.
  • You can hide a key. The problem here is that you must hide the key in a simple place to find. That makes it simple for someone else to find as well. The paramedics usually won't spend the time hunting for a key under a rock in the garden. They'll just break in.
  • Your neighbors can be called for a key. I can't tell you how many times we call eight different people on your list that are not there to answer the phone when they are needed.
  • EMT's can just break in to gain access. This often times leaves your door or window broken as you are on the way to the hospital.

Lock boxes are the fastest and safest way to gain entry to your home in an emergency.

People worry that someone will break the lock box open, get their key, and rob their house? I have never heard of this happening. A professional thief would just break a glass window and open the door. Or they would just pick your door lock. It would take a very long time to break open a lock box. It's kind of like a mini safe.

Those are your options.
